Her jailhouse visit not only lands her in the middle of the investigation of the Marks death, it nearly has her as a suspect in the murder when some compromising photos are found in Marks’ studio.
Bailey and Knowles are brought into an uneasy alliance as Bailey continues her investigative reporting on the women’s’ murders while quietly trying to clear her husband of the Marks murder, and Knowles handles the investigations of all of them, while keeping an eye on Bailey. An encounter with a known prostitute and a stealth visit to the Marks crime scene lead Bailey to some disturbing connections that prove both risky and life-threatening.

I have never been a reader of mystery novels and I'm not quite sure how this one caught my eye. The idea of the cop and reporter characters anchoring a series like this was intriguing and as I got more into understanding this specific cop (Knowles) and reporter (Bailey), I was drawn in and couldn't put it down until I had seen their case through to its conclusion. Roxann Davis is an excellent writer. Her plot is complicated yet accessible for a mystery novel newby like me. Her characters are complex and, Bailey and Knowles in particular, are people you could enjoy being friends with. I am looking forward to another in what I hope will be a series. The subtitle seems to suggest that there will be more. Let's hope!Product details

Well written, descriptive, with unexpected results. A great bit of mind candy for a mystery reader! Brava Roxann! Nicely done!
Roxanne Davis's characters, flawed as they may be, like your average person, are all realistic with normal responses to abnormal conditions. Devon in particular, as she uses her journalistic abilities to try to determine why and by whom the famous photographer was murdered, and for which her ex-husband is charged, experiences the doubts, puzzlement, and fears readers would expect her to experience. Yet she persists and we get to enjoy the way her mind and determination unravel the mysteries of this convoluted plot. A fine initial novel I highly recommend.
